On the Scene: Se7en Art, Michael McBride and James Threalkill
Last weekend I attended the opening of Michael McBride and James Threalkill's exhibit "American Icons" at Hotel Indigo. The exhibit is a part of Se7en Art's larger gallery exhibit of other (mainly) Nashvillian artists.
Both McBride and Threalkill have created paintings for this exhibit that portray iconic figures, such as Barack Obama, Lena Horne and Michael Jackson.
McBride's paintings have an Andy Warhol-feel to them, reflecting the unique pop art influences of American culture.
In his collection, Threalkill has depicted several images of Michael Jackson using various hues of the color blue -- as if a visual elegy to the late pop star.
The Hotel Indigo's second floor, with its wide hallways and indoor balcony that opens to a Starbucks below is an appealing space for an art gallery.
The exhibit runs from August 14-October 31 at the Hotel Indigo on Union Street in Downtown Nashville. To purchase artwork in the exhibit, contact Beth Keener of Se7en Art.
