On The Scene: Street Art in Little Five, Atlanta

Fellow editor Matthew Clair and I both happened to be in Atlanta visiting the schools we taught at while doing Teach for America the last two years. So, of course, on the first night we had to visit our old stomping grounds.

On the Scene: Sugar and [Cajun] Spice – Gumbo Diablo, the band

I first discovered Gumbo Diablo at The Plough and Stars, a gem of a bar in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The dueling accordions, zydeco and Cajun sounds, and multilingual lyrics were a welcome shock. It seemed as if I was no longer in the snowy suburbs of Boston, but rather down in the sticky swamps of Louisiana.

On the Scene: Se7en Art, Michael McBride and James Threalkill

Last weekend I attended the opening of Michael McBride and James Threalkill's exhibit "American Icons" at Hotel Indigo. The exhibit is a part of Se7en Art's larger gallery exhibit of other (mainly) Nashvillian artists.

On The Scene: Bacon Bombs and Bluegrass

The “bacon bomb,” an IED comprised of a contained campfire and about 4 days worth of bacon grease, was placed on a sandbar in the middle of the Saint Vrain River in Lyons, Colorado, where for the past 3 days, the Planet Bluegrass Ranch played host to the RockyGrass Music Festival. I was lucky enough to stay for the whole festival, working trash duty eight hours a day, camping at night, and listening to fantastic music.

Interview: Liz Lane, Fashion Designer

Liz Lane has always called Tuscaloosa, Alabama home. She graduated from the University of Alabama where she attained her Bachelors degree in Apparel Design. She is now a children's designer for a local business, Babytalk, in Northport, Alabama and is producing a women's line of her own.
